FAQ

How we work, what we do not do, and how an engagement starts.

Questions we are asked first

Straight answers before you
hand over a ledger.

Practices and finance teams usually want to know how we sit beside the accountant, what stays in-house, and how access, review and pricing work. The list below covers that. If your case is different, send the software, volume and deadline and we will reply with a practical next step.

We keep the ledger, working papers and period-end packs your accountant relies on. Statutory filings, tax advice and audit opinions stay with the professionals you appoint. Fine Books is the production layer underneath that process.

Peak season, staff shortages and catch-up books should not force you to turn work away. We add capacity in Xero, QuickBooks and Sage, with VAT-aware coding and a review before delivery, so your team can stay on client relationships.

Day-to-day bookkeeping, books cleanup, accounts production, management accounts, and audit support on material financial-statement line items. We do not issue audit opinions, give tax advice or file at Companies House. VAT returns stay with your appointed professional; we keep the coding and records they review.

We typically work in your Xero, QuickBooks or Sage file, plus the banks and apps you already use. You invite us as a user with access limited to the work. We do not move your ledger onto a platform of our own.

We work to your chart of accounts and naming conventions, with a named contact and a second look at material items. Queries are logged, not buried. You see the same cloud file your client and accountant see.

Access is limited to the people doing the work. We prefer to work in your cloud accounting software so you remain in control of the file. Client information is treated as confidential and used only to perform the engagement.

No, unless you ask us to. The client relationship stays with your practice. We hand work back to you for review and delivery.

Yes. Many engagements start with a single ledger, a catch-up, or one reporting pack. We agree scope in writing first, then scale if the fit is right.

A written quotation sets the scope, software, volume and turnaround. Fees depend on transaction volume and complexity, not a one-size monthly rate published on this site. There is no obligation until you accept the quote.

Bank feeds connected, invoices and receipts in the file or a capture app, payroll reports where relevant, and a named person for queries. Missing source documents are the usual reason a close slips.

Yes. Cleanup typically covers unreconciled banks, VAT coding errors, duplicate suppliers and opening-balance issues, then a clean monthly rhythm afterwards.

Once software access and a short scope call are done, we can usually start on the next period or an agreed catch-up. You get a named contact, agreed turnaround, and updates in the channel you already use — email, WhatsApp or a call.
